The first Gin bar in Malta with the widest gin selection of the island! More than 50 different kind of Tapas !

Yard 32 is a new concept bar in Malta; we are pleased to serve you the largest gin selection of the island in a Spanish atmosphere, more than 180 different gins and home-made fresh tapas!

Probably you are thinking why a Spanish bar? We travelled a lot around  Spain and felt in  love for what it is : warm atmosphere, friendly  people,  wonderful  tapas and,  of course,  Gin.

In Spain, the bartender doesn'’t ask you what you want to drink, he asks you how you want your gin and tonic prepared. This simplest of drinks, just gin, tonic, ice and a garnish , is considered the national drink of Spain and is enjoyed by everyone, whether they' re 18 or 80, whether they live in Spain or are visiting. The trend started in the North, in Basque country, where you can walk into a bar and upon ordering the national drink you are presented with a cart teeming with gin and tonic options to create your very own. And this drink will NOT be served in a tall, skinny glass  with   mediocre ice.   No,no,no!   This is where the fanfare comes in!

First your bartender pulls out a super large balloon glass (the shape enhances the gin's aromas) and fills it with large dense ice cubes (so they melt slowly in your drink), then he stirs in the gin and tops with tonic and finally he chooses just the right garnish, one that will complement the botanicals of the gin.

This is what we want to be ..a proper gin bar, the first one on the island, to give you the possibility to enter in the amazing world of Gin. Here you can choose the brand who suite you more, but don'’t be stuck on your favourite one.. there are so many others waiting your judge!

P.S Yard 32 wants to give you only the best choice.. you are not going to find here low brands of gin like Gordons.. but we are sure that you are not going to miss them after have tried one from our selection !

Thanks to be here!

TAPAS

Tapas (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈtapas]) are a wide variety of appetizers, or snacks, in Spanish cuisine. They may be cold (such as mixed olives and cheese) or hot (such as chopitos, which are battered, fried baby squid). In select bars, tapas have evolved into an entire, sophisticated cuisine. In Spain, patrons of tapas can order many different tapas and combine them to make a full meal. In some Central American countries, such snacks are known as bocas. In Mexico, the vegetarian varieties of similar dishes are called "botanas."

The serving of tapas is designed to encourage conversation, because people are not so focused upon eating an entire meal that is set before them. Also, in some countries it is customary for diners to stand and move about while eating tapas.

According to The Joy of Cooking, the original tapas were the slices of bread or meat which sherry drinkers in Andalusian taverns used to cover their glasses between sips. This was a practical measure meant to prevent fruit flies from hovering over the sweet sherry. The meat used to cover the sherry was normally ham or chorizo, which are both very salty and activate thirst. Because of this, bartenders and restaurant owners created a variety of snacks to serve with sherry, thus increasing their alcohol sales. The tapas eventually became as important as the sherry.

Tapas have evolved through Spanish history by incorporating new ingredients and influences. Most of the Iberian Peninsula was invaded by the Romans, who introduced the olive and irrigation methods. The discovery of the New World brought the introduction of tomatoes, sweet and chili peppers, maize (corn) and potatoes. These were readily accepted and easily grown in Spain's microclimates.

There are many tapas competitions throughout Spain. There is only one National Tapas competition, which is celebrated every year in November. Since 2008, the City of Valladolid and the International School of Culinary Arts have celebrated the International Tapas Competition for Culinary Schools. Various schools from around the world come to Spain annually to compete for the best tapa concept.
